Why did Papa discourage Jeanne from converting into Catholicism?

Jeanne's father refuses to allow Jeanne to convert for a few reasons. First, she is ten-years-old. Second, if she converts to Cathlocism, she will only ever be able to marry a Catholic...... and Japanese boys aren't Catholic.
