- What role do federal loans play in the franchising process?
The irony is found in the limited access to franchises, as well as their prohibitive costs. Only a select few can afford the fees, construction, and operation costs needed to open a franchise, which is ironic when looking at the vision of the industry's founders.
The government offers federal loans to people opening franchises under the premise of small business. Franchise owners qualify for federal loans because they are seen as independent contractors. This type of funding puts "mom and pop" stores out of business because it ultimately supports large corporations.
