How does Troy feel about credit?
Act 1 Scence 1
Act 1 Scence 1
Troy tells of buying his furniture on credit from a mysterious white man who may or may not have been the devil. He tells him that he pays ten dollars to the devil each month for the furniture and that he has been paying that sum for the last fifteen years. The implication here is that the world of lending money out belongs to the white man. Once a Black man owe the white man, he will be ideated forever. Much like the Devil, the white man will demand his due.
