what is the significance of davies naming part one of the novel mrs. dempster?

Mrs. Dempster sets the tone for the entire novel in a number of different ways. First, the accident with the snowball...... this accident causes Dunstan to carry around guilt for the rest of his life. It didn't matter that he didn't throw the snowball, what mattered was a true and kind woman was harmed. A woman adored by her husband was blamed for the premature birth of their son, and her husband, a reverand, treated her in any manner but a Christian one. Thus, Mrs. Dempster's accident is the beginning of the course Dunstan Ramsey's life will take...... and she is a part of what happens to him until the end.
