considering luckynell's innocence, what does the story imply about a person's ability to remain innocent in the modern world

I'm not sure that luckynell has too much to choose from. Her mother wants stability and pretty much calls the shots. Innocence takes a back seat to self-interest of both mother and Mr. Shiftlet.
