I can give you a couple:

-Mrs. Carter points out that Mr. Shiflet is a harmless tramp yet he ends up dumping her daughter and stealing her car.

-Mr. Shiftlet seems to bring new life into the home of Mrs. Carter and her daughter yet he was most likely trying to figure out how best to use them.
