Jefferson and Adams had very different views regarding the American Revolution.Jefferson's depiction of the war as highly romanticized and skated over the messy bits, putting the Revolution in a better light. On the other hand, Adams told the war as themessy affair that it was: unplanned, unsteady, and survived on pure chance. Ellis statesthat Jefferson's romanticized view is the one depicted in our history books, and notAdam's harsher view of the matter.
