The Party System ended during this period, and the dialogue reflected the meltdown of the early party system. The number of Federalists had dwindled down to nothing and Republican unity became anything but unified. After 1824, the Second Party System came to be in a new and different form; the Jacksonian faction (later to be the Democratic Party) and the Henry Clay faction, which represented the Whigs (who more or less disappeared.
