How does the duel NOT mirror events between the Federalists and Democrat-Republicans?

Unlike most of what transpired between the Democrat-Republicans and the Federalists, the duel and its participants were described as "honorable" by those in attendance. Honorable is not a word that would often be used in regard to these parties, and everything that happened afterward was based upon politcal rhetoric and propaganda.
