How does Walton respond to the stranger? Why do you think Walton is immediately attracted to him?

Walton responds first as a human being who wants to help others.  He picks up someone who needs assistance to save that someone from death.  Later, he is attracted to the stranger because they have many similarities in wanting to explore and find new knowledge that has always seemed almost forbidden.
