Frankenstein's story and his obvious motivation to experiment and discover mirror Walton's own.... how could Walton resist. Throughout the letters, Walton notes his desire for a kindred spirit, someone to talk to, someone who would understand his mission. It isn't until he meets Victor that he actually acquires this type of confidant. Walton is immediately drawn to the stranger and his story.
