In Chapter 8, why does Victor not speak on behalf of Justine? What does this say about his character?

Victor knew who that the creature had done it as he stated in this quote, “[The creature] was the murderer! I could not doubt it” (60) but his pride did not allow him to tell the truth and speak in behalf of Justine. He did not wish for anyone to see the abomination that he has created.

Victor is convinced that no one will believe his story and he will be declared a lunatic.

He is also afraid of others' finding out what he has done.

He is mostly feeling guilty; he feels responsible for William's death. But, in true fashion, he leaves a woman to her fate. He did the same with Elizabeth, both by ignoring her during his research and later when he leaves her alone to be attacked by the creature.
