In Chapter Twelve, the family the creature observes makes him all the more aware of the things he wants..... a family..... comaraderie. Even in their poverty, he sees the family as blessed to have each other. He's like a child learning about the world and what he wants...... and more than anything, he wants to be accepted.... to belong.
