When he starts educating himself by finding the books and reading them.
The creature is revealed here to be tremendously complex in a very human way. When he reads Paradise Lost, he finds a strange affinity with Adam and Satan both--almost as though he were an intertwining of these two moral extremes without an identifiable solution.
