This is a pretty huge question. We need to consider that these relationships were based on Victorian era social norms. Relationships were thus prescribed through gender and social class. Critics argue Victor's creation was born out of his own social, intellectual, and sexual repressions. It think that in the end, Shelly is commenting on the human need for love, meaning, and belonging. Really, that's what any of these characters were after, including the creature.
