what is so ironical about the creature's reaction to victor's death?

The creature says that it caused him agony to commit his crimes, since his heart "was fashioned to be susceptible to love and sympathy"; only the greatness of his misery drove him to vice and hatred. Ironically the creature does not revel in Victor's demise. In many ways he loved his maker. He wanted a relationship with him which would never be.
