frankenstein, chapter 9
frankenstein, chapter 9
Victor is tormented by the false calm that descends upon the Frankenstein household following the death of Justine. He is wracked with guilt; though he intended to further the cause of human happiness, he has ended in committing "deeds of mischief beyond description horrible." He seeks escape from his misery by traveling through the Alpine valley of Chamounix, in which he had often vacationed as a boy.
