Max is moping around after Freak's death. Loretta asks Max what he's doing these days, and he tells her exactly what you'd expect: nothing. She tells him, "Nothing is a drag, kid. Think about it". She is basically telling Max that he is choosing to be sad and negative all the time.

I think that it means nothing is boring and don't be in that mind set
