Bissinger supports the claim by noting the town's make-up.... Odessa is a hustling, bustling oil town, existing in a world of ups and downs. The people are tough, unchanging, and unlike other places, racism seems to have a continued hold on the people. None-the-less, football is the stabilizer.... it's what the town lives for.
