I am trying to figure out what today's influence of the Galileo vs Catholic Church case is?

Often called the father of modern astronomy, the father of modern science, the father of physics, and the father of science, I think we can say that the scientific greats who came after him built on his theories, his scientific research, and the scientific methods that he used to arrive at his discoveries. He was suspected by the church of violating the information and language of the Bible, but we know today that somebody had to begin the scientific investigation. While the church tried to muzzle him by convicting him of vehement heresy and confining him to house arrest, they actually gave him the leisure to work on his theories while under that house arrest. The world had to start with its scientific discoveries somewhere; Galileo was one of the men who made such a start.
