For shooting the Elephant- elephant had demolished a hut, overturned a garbage van, killed a cow, and eaten food stalls at the market. The Burmese can't do much about the elephant because they have no weapons.
Against- Elephant was chained. Elephant was a working elephant that was very valuable. He looked like he had calmed down. Personally, I love elephants and the elephant was a valuable worker animal. I would have tried to save it.
