When and why is Margaretha called Gretha?
Sometimes Goethe calls her Margaretha, sometimes Gretha...What is the reason of that?

The only link is to Susanna Margaretha Brandt, which was an inspiration for Faust. Gretha would be the short form of the name.

Ok, but sometimes in Goethe's Faust Margaretha is called Gretchen (short form)...In what situations is Margaretha called by her short form? That's the question that all the professors are asking.
