"The land is your enemy" was an apt description of the environment soldiers entered when the arrived in Vietnam. The soldiers were hampered by their surroundings, the climate, and the unknown. Metaphorically, this comes to portray the animosity of the Vietnamese people in reaction to the presence of American troops. Enemies were everywhere.... the land (Vietnam) was their enemy.
