The most "Gothic" element is probably Satis House where Miss Havisham lives with its stopped clock and its wedding cake with cob webs on it. The social satire is obvious when Pip places so much stock in becoming a gentleman when people like Bentley Drummle, who is hardly gentlemanly, are considered members of the upper class. The detective story is the question that Pip has, over and over, about who his benefactor is.
