I really don't think Pip ever hated Joe. Even in the midst of his illusions of becoming a gentleman, Pip never hated Joe.He looked down on him though. Joe however, never stopped loving Pip. Despite being treated badly, he nurses Pip back to health, pays his debts and apologizes for any pain he felt from Mrs. Joe,

"Which dear old Pip, old chap," said Joe, "you and me was ever friends. And when you're well enough to go out for a ride—what larks!
