I think there is a certain rural bias in Great Expectations. If we step back and look at the book as a whole, this becomes evident. Pip doesn't have many positive experiences in London. Most of his experiences in London are directly tied with money or the lack of it. The things and people that mattered in his life were in the country. Pip finds this out in the end when he finally returns to the place he never should have left in the first place.
