Pip wants nothing more than to have this opportunity. He doesn't understand that the special thing about him is "who" he is...... you'd think he'd be happy as a gentleman, but money does not a gentleman make. He finds that out over time.

Pip is a kind boy but unfortunately the illusion of being a "gentleman" cloud his judgment. This is Victorian England where people are either born rich or born poor. There is very little room to move up in class. So no, I think Pip has people close to him that mean a lot. Being a gentleman will be an empty existence for Pip.
