Pip's journey to be a "gentleman" is not an easy one. He finds out that he must sacrifice what is most important to him in order to fulfill this empty title. He leaves the warmth of Joe, Biddy, and people that care about him for the harshness of London and finances. Unfortunately this journey just leaves Pip empty and broke. Pip has lost his chance at love and betrayed the people that love him the most. In the end, Pip does regain some self- respect. Pip helps hide Magwitch and plots his escape. He swallows all his pride to ask Miss. Havisham, who helped ruin his life, for a loan to give to Herbert Pocket so he can pursue his dreams. He is even happy for Joe and Biddy's union. Although he is left with nothing, Pip finally figures out how to be a true gentleman.
