Herbert describes Pip as “a good fellow, with impetuosity and hesitation, boldness and diffidence, action and dreaming, curiously mixed in him.” Defend or refute this characterization

I suppose Herbert is right. There is however a simpler explanation; Pip is a good fellow deep down but he gets easily swept away by illusions of money and gentry.
