Great Expectations
How does Pip "become a gentleman"?
I didn't know if this meant like how he got the money from the convict and made "a better him" or something else.

Pip wants to become a gentleman because he wants to make himself worthy of Estella. In order to become a gentleman, Pip focuses on education, dress, and manners. In order to do this, he received money from a benefactor. I suppose Pip does become a gentleman but it is not what he envisioned it would be. Pip finds being a gentleman lonely and unfulfilling.
