how does pip react to what he sees at Newgate (the prison) ?

The prison is a dingy place. Pip notes “a frouzy, ugly, disorderly, depressing scene it was." Wemmick walks around the prison like it is a greenhouse and the prisoners are his plants. Although the place is dirty and disorderly, it seems that the prisoners like Wemmik enough and, at least during visiting time, are not grossly ill-treated.
