The term Bildungsroman denotes a novel of all-around self-development. Used generally, it encompasses a few similar genres: the Entwicklungsroman, a story of general growth rather than self-culture; the Erziehungsroman, which focuses on training and formal education....Great Expectations is widely considered to be a direct descendant of Goethe's Wilhelm Meister, the prototypical Bildungsroman. The Bildungsroman and Pip's "Expectations" On the surface, Great Expectations appears to be simply the story of Pip from his early childhood to his early adulthood, and a recollection of the events and people that Pip encounters throughout his life. In other words, it is a well written story of a young man's life growing up in England in the early nineteenth century.Pip matures throughot the story and has understood much about the real "expectations" and dissapontments of life. thanks Aslan but i wonder if the doctor as in the exam discuss the Bildungsroman in great expectation so 'should we talk about pip life through his childhood till adulthood and how had his wealthy ,when he lost it when he backto joe to aske for forgivness and so on .....?
