Great Expectations

What does the last sentence of the second ending suggest?

"I took her hand in mine, and we went out of the ruined place; and as the morning mists had risen long ago when I first left the forge, so the evening mists were rising now and in all the broad expanse of tranquil light they showed to me, I saw no shadow of another parting from her"

This is the hopeful ending that suggests that the two might still have some type of future together if only as friends. They have a shared history where they both had been living under an illusion of success. They both found out their reality was something entirely different than what they had expected. Now Pip and Estella meet again: two broken individuals but sincere and exposed to each other as they really are.
