what horrible event does pip discover on his return home

If this question pertains to Part II/ Chapter 15...... this is the Chapter in which Pip finds out about the death of his sister.

If not...... this could be the Chapter in which Pip returns home thinking he'll propose to Biddy, and upon his arrival finds out that Joe has married Biddy.
