Lets take a look at the major colours pervading this chapter. There is a dark night is dark over the marsh (that's scary). In the sky the moon is a deep red (that's ominous and scary). Then there is a thick mist that surround the limekiln. This all adds up to one creepy feeling. It sounds like something out of an episode of Scooby-Doo but it's really just Orlick wanting some revenge. Dickens uses some pretty standard frightening colours to describe the scene. He lays on the foreshadowing pretty thick here but he does get his meaning across; Pip is in trouble!
