why does Herbert accuse Pip of "looking into our gift-horse's mouth with a magnifying glass"?

I recall Pip is complaining about all his expectations based on Jaggers and Mrs. Havisham. Herbert tells Pip not to seem ungrateful to the people that are helping him.
