How does religion play a big part in Grendel. And how does isolation effect him.

Upon meeting a priest and watching a religious ceremony, Grendel becomes increasingly frustrated with what he perceives to be the vulgarity and stupidity of religious belief. He understands it as merely a way for base people to feel better about themselves, and he finds it rather intolerable that this is the case.
