what are Hrothgar's society's views on god? what is grendel's repsonse?

While the men and women of the village pray to a God that showers his appreciation with riches and punishes with famine and death, Grendel is more of an existentialist. Although Grendel is aware of his Biblical roots, he does not see the world as controlled by a one entity. Instead he sees the world as a series of elements, both good and bad, that form what simply is reality. Hrothgar and his people see the world as good and evil in constant conflict.
