Gulliver is treated as something of a freak show here. Gulliver is given into the care of the farmer's daughter, Glumdalclitch, who teaches him the language and treats him very well, like a child would care for a favorite doll. In fact, she keeps him in a doll's cradle, which she closes inside a drawer at night to keep him safe from the rats. Certainly Gulliver's loss of dignity is lost on any of the family. Gulliver is of interest to the king and queen but he must always entertain them. He must be careful to know his place.
