How did the Lilliputians make Gulliver their prisoner? How did they treat him?

The Lilliputians tied Gulliver up. Note, he could easily have escaped had he been willing to feel the pin pricks of their arrows, or if he'd been willing to hurt them. Gulliver did not have the notion to do either. He was treated well by the Lilliputians.
