Much of Swift's epic concentrates on finding the perfect society, the perfect utopia. Unlike Plato's Republic or Thomas More’s Utopia, Swift doesn't really give us one. He finds one that is close, Houyhnhnms, but they won't accept him. Even there we find discord among classes. Everywhere Gulliver goes there is a collective disdain for the individual. Conformity is the sought after feature and the individual, though perhaps interesting, must finally conform to social norms.
