Gulliver's Travels
what do you think about Gulliver at the end of the novel?
Chapter 12 part 4
Chapter 12 part 4
I think Gulliver goes from a rather ordinary young man in search of adventure to a rather bitter critic of humanity. Every place that Gulliver visited had some sort of satirical reflection on England and Europe. The end result is a hatred for everything human. In the last chapter we find out that he "began last week to permit (his) wife to eat dinner with (him)". It's also been five years since he has been back! I think Gulliver has had a unique insight in parts of the human condition but he dismisses any goodness or redemptive qualities humanity might have. This will make it very difficult for Gulliver to lighten up and improve his society,
