What does the Houyhnhnm mean when he says he, "thought his ears being used to such abominable words, might by degrees admit them with less detestation"?

The Houyhnhnms cannot stand to hear any more stories about savagery from Gulliver's account of human history. They find his account of wars offensive to any enlightened species.
