To begin with the King makes Gulliver kneel in front of him and lick the ground in front of his feet. That about sums up Gulliver's experience with him. The King is an example of the silliness, pomp and circumstance certain Monarchies can give themselves. Gulliver is forced to lie and grovel to the king just to be able to continue his journey. The scene and the king are comic in nature and a great example of satire that Swift is famous for.
