The ghost fills Hamlet in on his murder. He asks Hamlet to avenge him. Hamlet is susceptible to the supernatural: his imagination is stimulated. Hamlet wants his father's ghost to rest. He is already not fond of his uncle; this gives Hamlet new purpose in his life.
