hamelt is real mad or not?

This is of course a hotly debated question. It is why we love Hamlet so much. I think Hamlet was certainly melancholy. Nobody did sad and depressed as well as this guy! Acting crazy was certainly in his plan. He warned his friends about his intention to act "strange or odd" and to "put an antic disposition on". Still, at times one had to wonder. His unhealthy obsession with his mother, his manic mood swings combined with his over the top speeches were cause to make us wonder if he was losing it or not. So was he crazy? I would tend to say no. Hamlet's elaborate plans combined with his powerful ability of self-reflection (by the end of the play) point to him being quite sane but depressed as well.
