Hamlet
How are Laertes and Polonius similar in their views concerning Hamlet? Are they different at all?
Act 1
Act 1
Both feel Hamlet is using Ophelia for sex and that Hamlet has no lasting interest in her. Both view Ophelia as a possession of sorts that they can judge. I think Polonius especially sees his daughter as property to be controlled and manipulated to benefit him. There is a sense that Laertes is looking out for his sister but in a very patriarchal way.
