Hamlet

How does Hamlet’s explanation of his mother’s marriage reflect Shakespeare’s use of wit to develop Hamlet’s character?

Hamlet's explanantion of his mother's marriage goes beyond the thoughts of an unhappy young man. Hamlet doesn't just lament their marriage, he makes fun of the marriage. His mother is weak, his uncle is his father's opposite. I don't necessarily sees this as witty, but Shakespeare's words do invoke smiles.

Frailty, thy name is woman!

O God, a beast that wants discourse of reason Would have mourned longer!—married with my uncle,
My father’s brother, but no more like my father
Than I to Hercules.
