Hamlet wants to know the truth about the ghost in his father's form. Hamlet thinks something is amiss in Denmark and he means to seek it out. Hamlet has always had a metaphysical bent to him. He believes in the ghost and is excited at the possibilities his father's ghostly presence offers. Horatio begs Hamlet not to follow the ghost. He fears the ghost can take on a "pleasing shape" and suddenly turn on Hamlet. Hamlet is not to be dissuaded; he must follow the ghost and hear what he has to say.
