Hamlet

There is an appearance of a ghost in Hamlet

What were some of the attitudes towards ghosts and the supernatural during Shakespeare's time? And today? How does the use of a ghost function in telling the story?

Ghost lend an air of the supernatural, and people were far more likely to believe in things they couldn't understand and focus on superstition during Shakepeare's lifetime. None-the-less, the popularity of horoscopes, fortune tellers, and belief in the supernatural surrounds us daily..... maybe things haven't changed so much.

Hamlet's ghost fills us in on the things we wouldn't otherwise know. It apprises us of the details surrounding old Hamlet's death.
